On April 24 and 25, 2010 members representing Aleutian/Pribilof Island communities, Tribes, non‐profit and
for‐profit organizations, business leaders, political representatives and the public convened a meeting to
address the critical energy issues of the region. The two‐day meeting, entitled Aleutian and Pribilof Islands
Regional Energy Summit, covered many issues, solutions and ongoing energy related efforts in the region.
Four primary areas were discussed and subsequent committees were formed to address the following issues:
• Formation of a Bulk Fuel Cooperative
• The Elements of Conservation
• Renewable Energy
• Implementation of Our Policy and Plan

Objective 1 - To develop a comprehensive energy policy and plan for the Aleutian Pribilof Islands Region for implementation no later than Spring 2011
Objective 2 - 85% reduction of fossil fuel use in our communities

Working Groups:
Bulk Fuel Purchases/Distribution Committee: This group will work to overcome impediments, and work on potential organizational structure, purchasing components, bid process, transportation issues and participation requirements. Chair is Larry Cotter

Energy Conservation Committee:
The group is focused on what constitutes conservation in the home, the workplace and the community, and will identify actions that can be taken to reduce energy consumption, such as weatherization, and energy education and how that can be accomplished region-wide.
Co-Chairs are Dan Duame and Ken Selby

Renewable Energy Committee:
This group will define and identify the sources of renewable energy in our region, capabilities, what are impediments to utilization and how can those impediments be overcome.
Co-Chairs are Everette Anderson and Bruce Wright

Implementation and Administration Committee:
This group works on coordination, grant seeking, RFP responses, issues of turf, committee networking, web site, sharing, decision making, organization and timeline. This group works with the A-Team which will meet in late October 2010 to review the progress made by the working groups and assess how best to meet the goals and objectives. Chair is Chris Lace

Ms. Moller,
Please find the A-Team's Regional Energy Planning proposal attached for the Alaska Energy Authority's consideration.

As discussed when you, Bruce Tiedeman, Chris Lace, Bruce Wright and I met at the AIDEA offices, the A-Team has been working diligently on identifying solutions to the Aleutian and Pribilof Island region's energy issues - whether it is conservation/weatherization, lower cost bulk fuel, capturing stranded energy, transmission/distribution, renewable energy and emerging energy technology integration, we are looking at all possibilities that make sense for the region.

This proposal is intended to allow the A-Team to finalize a comprehensive assessment of the region's current and future needs. Furthermore, it offers a strategic and dynamic policy and plan for the region to follow as it looks to address its Objectives:

Objective 1 - To develop a comprehensive energy policy and plan for the Aleutian Pribilof Islands Region for implementation no later than Spring 2011;
Objective 2 - 85% reduction of fossil fuel use in our communities

Bruce and I would be happy to discuss further and answer any questions you may have regarding this proposal.

Regards and Happy New Year,
Everette Anderson
